331 Million Pieces of Express Packages Were Sent out on the Day of "Double 11"

This year’s “double 11” is the ninth consecutive year for the big promotion of the E-commerce. According to the data monitored by the State Postal Bureau, in the whole day of November 11th, the main E-commerce enterprises produced a total of 850 million orders of express logistics, an increase of 29.4% compared with that of last year; and all the postal, courier enterprises handled 331 million pieces on the whole day, an increase of 31.5% compared with that of last year. 


As everybody knows, E-commerce has become a new driving force for the economic development and promoted the deepening of the supply side reforms. During the 2017 Beijing International Fair for Trade in Services, Sun Yao, Deputy Director-General of the Commission of Commerce of Beijing Municipality introduced at the Forum of the 2017 China (Beijing) E-commerce Conference that from 2010 to 2016, the total amount of the online retail sales of the wholesale and retail enterprises which are above the designated limits of Beijing has increased from RMB 12 billion Yuan to RMB 204.9 billion Yuan, an increase of 16 times. According to the data from the Municipal Bureau of statistics, in 2016, the total amount of the online retail sales of the wholesale and retail enterprises which are above the designated limits in Beijing achieved RMB 204.9 billion Yuan, an increase of 20% as compared to that of last year, its contribution rate to the total social retail sales of consumer goods was 51.2%, pulling 3.3 percentage points of the growth of the total social retail sales of consumer goods.


By 24:00 of November 11th this year, the total amount of sale of Tmall for this year’s “double 11” finally fixed at RMB168.2 billion Yuan, among which the mobile accounted for 90%, the merchants finished with transactions and users covered 222 countries and regions. Alipay's data shows that the number of total payments made by the global consumers to Tmall on the "double 11" 2017 through Alipay reached 1.48 billion, an increase of 41% over last year, which equals that on average every Chinese completed more than one payment through Alipay on “double 11”.


So, looking around the world, what is the level of this achievement report of the E-commerce? There is no doubt that we Chinese are “excellent students". The 2017 China E-commerce Development Report released jointly by the CCTV financial channel and the Institute for Strategic Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences shows that the absolute scale of China’s E-commerce is large, accounting for 40% of the global market share. In 2016, China's online shopping scale (excluding services) reached USD$750 billion, much more than the aggregated amount of the United States (USD$312.1 billion) ranked the second, the UK (USD$150 billion) ranked the third and Japan (USD$90 billion) ranked the fourth.
