First, the Fair has higher standards. Chinese President Xi Jinping sends a congratulatory letter to the 2019 CIFTIS for the first time. Hu Chunhua, Vice Premier of the State Council, inspected the pavilion and delivered a keynote speech. The two foreign dignitaries who are the President of Niger and the Prime Minister of Vanuatu, and the three foreign former dignitaries including Malta's former President, France's former Prime Minister, and Austria's former Prime Minister attended the 2019 CIFTIS. Besides, a total of 63 Chinese and foreign ministerial-level guests also participated at the 2019 CIFITIS, an increase of 14 ministerial-level guests from the previous CIFTIS. Thirty-five ambassadors to China attended the 2019 CIFTIS, a rise of 15 ambassadors of the prior CIFTIS.
Second, the level of internationalization is higher. Twenty-one international organizations participated in the exhibitions and conferences, an increase of 9 organizations from the previous CIFTIS. One hundred thirty-seven overseas countries and regions participated in the exhibitions and conferences, an increase of 15 from the previous CIFTIS, peaking a new high. 86 overseas countries and regions organized groups to set exhibitions and conferences, an increase of 25 of the prior CIFTIS. Of the 131 countries that signed the “Belt and Road” cooperation document with China, 98 countries participated in the exhibitions and conferences, accounting for nearly 80 percent of the total participation. All the top 30 countries and regions in service trade and 14 countries that have signed memorandums of cooperation with China on service trade participated in the exhibitions and conferences.
Third, industry influence is higher. Nearly 600 multinational companies and well-known enterprises in the industry, and 63 of the world's top 500 enterprises participated in the exhibitions and conferences, peaking a new high. Alibaba, JD.COM and other leading e-commerce enterpries, three leading communications operators, China Unicom, China Telecom, and China Mobile's, three leading telecommunications service providers Huawei, Ericsson, and ZTE's gathered in the exhibitions. More than 180 domestic and foreign business associations and professional agencies in the field of service trade participated in the exhibitions and conferences. More than ten academicians at home and abroad and more than 100 well-known entrepreneurs attended the conference and delivered speeches.
Fourth, the interactive experience is stronger. The 2019 CIFTIS set up themed exhibition areas such as Smart City, Smart Life, Smart Education, Smart Healthcare to showcase the latest achievements in the application of artificial intelligence, 5G and other cutting-edge digital technologies in the service field, including Smart Home, Smart Wear, Smart Pharmacy, 8k HD Display, etc., to provide the audience with a visual, scene, immersive, interactive experience. For the first time, the 5G full coverage of the Main Session was realized, and the intelligent display of the big screen was set up to achieve the interaction between the Main Session and Parallel Sessions, the 2019 CIFTIS and the 2019 World Horticulture Expo interactive, and strive to build the Smart CIFTIS.
Fifth, pay more attention to take targeted measures for poverty alleviation. The China E-Commerce Convention, hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and the Beijing Municipal Government, demonstrated the achievements of e-commerce poverty alleviation, organized a unique forum for e-commerce poverty alleviation, and promoted social e-commerce to help poverty alleviation of consumption. XDF.CN and Tomorrow Advancing Life presented the “YUAN SHAN” Internet Support Education Project in Yushu, Qinghai and Bijie, Guizhou, highlighting the public welfare orientation of education and poverty alleviation. The auction sector organized online and offline auctions of spot and futures orders for bulk agricultural and sideline products in Chifeng and Alxa in Inner Mongolia, Zhangye in Gansu and Pu'er in Yunnan, realizing an auction of RMB 1.4 billion to help targeted poverty alleviation.
Sixth, public participation is higher. For the first time, the 2019 CIFTIS adopted Multi-parallel Layout to create “One City, One Fair” to let more people into the CIFTIS. The 14th China Beijing International Cultural & Creative Industry Expo (the ICCIE 2019) conducted traditional culture performances. The Dongcheng District at the Parallel Session held fashion shows and tourism consumption carnivals, the Xicheng District at the Parallel Session held financial service exhibitions, the Chaoyang District at the Parallel Session held the “Belt and Road” international food carnival on the tip of the tongue, and the Haidian District at the Parallel Session held the technology carnival and Wukesong Basketball Development Forum. In addition, the Shijingshan District at the Parallel Session held ice-snow sports comprehensive exhibition and winter Olympic cultural exhibition, the Tongzhou District at the Parallel Session held cultural tourism and Universal Studios theme promotion activities, the Shunyi District at the Parallel Session held e-Sports Games, and the Changping District at the Parallel Session held the theme forum " happy Hui-Tian, Happy life" to attract public participation and enhance the sense of acquisition.
Seventh, the Fair is more attractive. Twenty countries and regions such as Germany, France, Switzerland, Ireland, Austria, Thailand, Colombia, and the United States have tentatively confirmed that they would continue to participate in the next CIFTIS. According to the results of a questionnaire survey conducted by third-party organizations on exhibitors, professional visitors and conference guests of CIFTIS, more than 90% of the participants indicated that they would like to participate in the next CIFTIS.
Main achievements of the CIFTIS
Through five sessions’ cultivation and development, CIFTIS has become an authoritative international trade in services platform that spreads ideas, connects demand and supply, shares business opportunities, and promotes development. The five sessions of CIFTIS cover a total area of 275,900 square meters for exhibition and negotiate transaction and hold 669 events, more than 8,500 enterprises and 646,000 customers from 179 countries and regions, as well as 12 overseas dignitaries have joined in, and have achieved the intentional turnover of $424.27 billion. The fair has attracted 79 overseas countries and regions to hold exhibitions and conferences, and nearly 200 international organizations and chambers and associations have participated in the exhibitions and conferences in groups, which have greatly promoted international communication and cooperation.
Firstly, consolidate global consensus and convey China’s voice to the world. CIFTIS has formed a mechanism that a global trade in services summit, as the first important event in each session, will be co-hosted by one of its three major permanent supporting institutions, namely WTO, UNCTAD, and OECD, national leaders will be invited to give keynote speech, and the heads of international organizations and international chambers and associations, senior executives of multinational corporations, and representatives from leading enterprises of different industries will center on hot issues on trade in services to gather global development consensus and convey China’s voice. Among these events, the Ministry of Commerce of China and the UNCTAD launched Global Services Vision Council and issued the Beijing Communique at the second CIFTIS; at the fifth CIFTIS, a Cooperation Initiative was issued centering on the advancement of implementing United Nations Agenda for 2030 Sustainable Development and the construction of a community of common destiny for mankind.
Secondly, implement national strategies and achieve new breakthrough. The CIFTIS pays much attention to inviting the countries along the "Belt and Road" and arranges related thematic events for them, also discusses with them on how to explore the opportunities existing in the services industry. A total of 46 countries along the "Belt and Road" have participated in the fifth CIFTIS in groups, and more than 10 thematic events were organized focusing on the "Belt and Road Initiative"; it also lays emphasis on organizing thematic events centering on national strategies including the further expansion of opening-up of service industry, the coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the innovation-driven development and the military-civilian integration.
Thirdly, its international attraction has continuously been increased. Senior representatives (deputy director-general or deputy secretary-general level or above) , from all three major permanent supporting institutions of CIFTIS, namely WTO, UNCTAD and OECD, attend the fair and hold relevant forum events at every occasion; the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), International Trade Centre (ITC), World Trade Point Federation (WTPF), and World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) have become the international cooperative institutions of CIFTIS since the fourth session; European Technology Chamber (EUTECC), International Information Content Industry Association (ICIA) and other famous international chambers and associations have intensively joined in the events of CIFTIS and striven positively for in-depth cooperation. More and more overseas countries and regions have participated in the exhibitions and conferences of this fair.
Fourthly, its leading role in service industry becomes increasingly prominent. CIFTIS has cultivated a batch of national-level branding events with leading functions in trade in services industry, such as China International Express Industry Development Conference, China TCM Conference, and China E-commerce Convention, CIFTIS has continuously advanced the cross-sector industrial cooperation led by digitalization and promoted the display and communication of new ideas, new experiences, new technologies and new achievements in the field of trade in services. CIFTIS has gradually developed into an important window for "bringing-in" the advanced international services and helping China services "going global".
