The 2020 China International Fair for Trade in Services (“CIFTIS”) themed by “Global Services, Shared Prosperity” will be held in early September in Beijing. According to Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology at the 5G Communication Services Thematic Exhibition News Briefing held on the afternoon of August 8, a 5G Communication Services Thematic Exhibition will be innovatively provided for the CIFTIS, where 5G scenarios will be demonstrated to visitors for the first time to showcase new applications and new cases of the information service industry in fostering emerging types of business and supporting the overall growth of the tertiary industry in the 5G era.

Experiencing the 5G era of intelligent connection through real-scenario interaction

The 5G Communication Services, as one of the eight thematic exhibitions of the 2020 CIFTIS, themed by “Benefiting New Services and Leading New Trade through Intelligent 5G”, will strive to give visitors a whole picture of 5G application services with “AI+IoT”.

The 5G Communication Services Thematic Exhibition will get rid of the traditional form. Characterized by the application scenarios and based on people’s life and work trajectories as the clues, six parts including 5G Life, 5G Park, 5G Smart Travel, 5G New Consumption, 5G New City, and 5G New Industry will be provided to integrate 5G application service scenarios such as smart city, home life, health care, financial consumption, social communication, education and entertainment, transportation and logistics, production and manufacturing, and city management.

According to Wang De, Director of the Electronics Division of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, a real-scenario interaction and exhibition space will be created in the zone with a focus on the immersive 5G real-life experiences and sense of participation so that visitors can comprehensively experience the 5G era of intelligent connection in the nearly 2,000-square-meter “miniature 5G world”.

Among the six parts, visitors can experience 5G smart home appliances, 5G health monitoring, 5G smart education, and 5G smart office, etc. in the “5G Life” area, intuitively feel new experiences and new entertainment under the 5G environment in the “5G Park” area, experience new consumption patterns in the 5G era in the “5G New Consumption” area, come into contact with 5G smart government affairs, 5G smart community, 5G energy management, and other new city services in the “5G New City” area, watch valet parking and self-driving demonstrations in the “5G Smart Travel” area, and gain a sense of the future in the 5G era through the integrated solution of “5G enterprise VPN + collaborative manufacturing cloud platform + industrial application” in the “5G New Industry” area.

International exhibitors account for 40% of the total exhibitors in the exhibition area

The 5G zone will also manifest sparkling highlights thanks to the participation of the industrial ecological chain, where the three major telecommunication operators of China will present themselves from different perspectives, and numerous leading enterprises will also appear, showing the whole industry chain’s high expectations for the prospect of 5G application services. International exhibitors to participate have so far reached 40% of the total exhibitors of the 5G Communication Services Thematic Exhibition, and leading enterprises in China in different areas will team up with international enterprises and operators from Japan, South Korea, the U.S., Thailand, Indonesia, and Austria, etc. to exhibit.

China will speed up 5G construction

The new-generation digital technologies represented by 5G have become an important factor in 2020 for absorbing pandemic shocks and driving economic growth. As the head of the new infrastructure, 5G is the representative and leading technology in the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial revolution and the strategic resources and public infrastructure to support future economic and social development. 5G’s full-spatio-temporal, full-real-world, and full-connection technology will profoundly change people’s production and life and drive human society into an era with the AI+IoT. And 5G technology application and integration will also serve every walk of life.

China is speeding up its 5G network construction at a pace of opening more than 15,000 new base stations every week. The number of 5G base stations constructed and opened by the three major telecommunication operators in China by the end of June has exceeded 400,000; and in terms of terminals, a total of 197 5G terminals have obtained the network access licenses in China. By the end of June, the shipments of 5G mobile phones have reached 86.23 million, and the number of terminals accessing the 5G network has reached 66 million.

According to Wang De, Beijing is working to accelerate new infrastructure construction such as 5G. The number of 5G base stations in Beijing has exceeded 24,000 by the end of July, and the cumulative number is expected to exceed 30,000 by the end of this year, to continuously cover outdoors within the Fifth Ring Road and Beijing Municipal Administrative Center and precisely cover key areas outside the Fifth Ring Road and typical application scenarios. Beijing will also actively promote the “one-five-five-one” project construction (one breakthrough, five scenarios, five typical applications, and one batch of new forms of 5G industry) to conduct the demonstration application of five typical scenarios including 5G smart transportation, smart healthcare, industrial internet, smart city, and UHD videos. Next, Beijing will continue to accelerate 5G new infrastructure construction, implement a new batch of new 5G application scenarios, and strive to build a new 5G industrial ecosystem.
