In 2012, the Ministry of Commerce and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, upon the approval of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, jointly hosted the (Beijing) International Fair for Trade in Services (referred to as the “Beijing Fair”), and in 2019, it was renamed to the China International Fair for Trade in Services. In 2020, the Beijing Fair was renamed to the "CIFTIS" for short. In recent years, the CIFTIS has emerged as the largest comprehensive exhibition in service trade internationally and the leading exhibition in service trade domestically. The CIFTIS, China Import and Export Fair and China International Import Expo serve as the three major exhibitions opening to the outside world in China.
Yan Ligang, Deputy Director of the 2020 CIFTIS Beijing Municipal Organizing and Service Guarantee Leading Group, and Director-General of Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau, introduced the overall arrangement, preparatory work and highlights of the 2020 CIFTIS.
The 2020 CIFTIS will be held at the China National Convention Center and surrounding venues in early September. In response to COVID-19 pandemic in a scientific and effective manner, and adapting to the development trend "from physical to virtual, from offline to online" of the convention and exhibition industry, the 2020 CIFTIS will be held both offline and online. Currently, it is prepared according to three schemes: (a) If the COVID-19 pandemic can be effectively controlled, it will be held in an “offline centered, online supplemented" mode. (b) If the overseas pandemic prevention and control situation is far from promising, it will be held both online and offline. According to the pandemic level, the offline exhibitions mainly target at exhibitors in low-risk areas at home and abroad, while overseas guests and exhibitors who are unable to arrive at the scene will join an online exhibition. (c) If the domestic and foreign epidemic prevention and control still remain serious, it will only be held online in accordance with the general requirements for national epidemic prevention and control.
The 2020 CIFTIS, themed with "Global Services, Shared Prosperity", covers 7 types of activities: (a) Important activities, including the Global Trade in Services Summit Forums. The summit forums will invite important guests from home and abroad to give speeches on the rules, orders and hot topics of international service trade, and develop a consensus on the development of global service trade. (b) Industry forums. It includes "New Trends in the Open Development of Service Trade", "Digital Trade Development Trends and Frontiers" and "Service Trade Facilitation from the Perspective of Multinational Companies", which will invite representatives of relevant international organizations and national government agencies, and well-known guests from domestic and foreign industry-university-research circles for discussions and exchanges. (c) Industry conferences and professional forums. Relevant international organizations and institutions, overseas countries and regions, national ministries and commissions, domestic provinces, regions and cities, domestic and overseas chambers, well-known enterprises, etc. will organize industry conferences and professional forums centering on topics such as frontier trends in service trade, innovative development, and international cooperation. In addition, there are negotiating talks, exhibitions, results releases, supporting activities, etc.
The 2020 CIFTIS, taking "first-class exhibition" as its goal, will realize three major innovations. (a) To establish a new "1+N" exhibition system. "1" refers to the selected exhibition area, highlighting the development achievements of China's service industry and service trade, the smart application of global service trade in 5G, artificial intelligence, blockchain and other cutting-edge technologies, as well as the latest products, the latest technologies and Chinese solutions for epidemic prevention at home and abroad, etc.; "N" refers to the creation of N industry topics; among them, cultural trade, tourism services, financial services, winter sports, service robots, 5G communication and information services, etc. will be unveiled. (b) To form a new mode of "offline + online” exhibitions. Build a digital CIFTIS platform, thus creating a "cloud CIFTIS" according to COVID-19 pandemic and participation demands. Provide more opportunities for exhibitors by setting up exclusive pages, building virtual booths, live streaming offline events, and creating virtual conference rooms; facilitate the accurate matching and negotiation for exhibitors through online reservation for offline events and the establishment of virtual negotiation rooms; set up an online release hall to host online release activities. (c) To launch a variety of supporting activities. Organize evening and off-site activities in an innovative manner to further enhance the effectiveness of the exhibition. In terms of evening activities, themed nights, business salons, dinner and cocktail parties and cultural performances, scientific and technological light shows, gourmet business parties, etc. will be held at the China National Convention Center and surrounding indoor and outdoor venues to provide convenience for exhibitors to carry out relaxing evening business exchanges; for off-site activities, consumption resources and routes of science, technology and culture tourism with Beijing characteristics will be recommended to provide exhibitors with diversified choices for in-depth experience of the capital's new image, new technologies, and new services.
At present, with regard to exhibitions of the 2020 CIFTIS, the exhibition layout and the design of temporary outdoor venues have been preliminarily formed. The General Exhibition Area for Service Trade is located on the first floor of the China National Convention Center, including First Hall, Public Health and Epidemic Prevention Zone, Special Area for Countries and Provinces (Autonomous Region and Municipalities), and Enterprise Zone for Twelve Majoy Fields of the Service Trade. The Featured Exhibition on Tourism Service is held on the ground floor of the China National Convention Center. National, provincial and municipal exhibitions, as well as exhibition areas such as cultural trade, financial services, winter sports, educational services, sports services, service robots, and 5G communication services are organized at temporary outdoor venues. In terms of forum negotiations and other activities, centering on the twelve major areas of service trade, and in combination with public health and epidemic prevention, digital services, winter sports and other frontier hotspots, 116 forum negotiation activities have been initially determined. In addition, small, sophisticated and diverse evening events such as theme nights will be held; new product launch activities will be organized, during which multiple well-known enterprises will release new technologies, new products and new achievements. In terms of investment and exhibition introduction and market development, we will keep tracking the COVID-19 pandemic and pre-invite relevant institutions, guests and merchants from home and abroad. At present, there are already 30 international organizations, embassies in China, and domestic and overseas chambers and institutions, which have initially expressed their intention to organize exhibitions; multiple international well-known enterprises have initially determined to hold exhibitions; Shanghai Municipality, as the guest municipality, will participate in the 2020 CIFTIS. In the near future, it will also openly solicit sponsors, investors, exhibitors, conference organizations, sponsorship agencies, etc. globally.
